As you can see Republican Presidents have issued far more executive orders than Obama. More importantly, one can not overturn the executive order of a dictator however Congress may attempt to overturn an executive order by passing legislation (a bill) that opposes the order. However, the President can veto that bill, and Congress would then need to override that veto to pass the bill. Also, the Supreme Court can declare an executive order to be unconstitutional. If Obama, or any US President, was in fact a dictator, overturning wouldn’t be an option.
This is called Reductio ad Hitlerum (or “Playing The Nazi Card”). It’s a informal fallacy where someone attempts to disprove, discredit or invalidate someone’s point by comparing it to a view that Hitler or the Nazi party would also hold. An example would be animals. We know as historical fact that Hitler loved animals however Reductio ad Hitlerum would argue that animals are bad because Hitler loved them.
This political trick has been with us since the 1950s and it’s sad that people are not only using it today but that many are falling for it. Actually, it’s quite despicable.
